Description
This was a multi-center, cross-sectional observational study in ## primary care clinics. Patient inclusion criteria were age>21 and <80 years, while pregnant women were excluded. The sampling frame for the primary care clinics was obtained from the National Medicine Use Survey of the Ministry of Health. Clinics were stratified by 14 states in Malaysia. For each state, a quota of clinics was selected based on the size of the population in that state. Each clinic was requested to recruit subjects consecutively on a clinic day, yielding a total sample size of ### subjects.
The relevant data was obtained from patientsÂ’ medical records, by face-to-face interview or direct measurement. The data collected included socio-demographic measures such as age, gender, ethnicity, education level and occupation. Information on cigarette consumption and on medical history (Cardiovascular Disease, Lipid disorders, Hypertension, Diabetes, and Post menopause and Hormonal Replacement Therapy) was also collected. Body weight, height and WC were measured by the attending physician.
