Description
Chemical engineers are at increased workplace risk due to their exposure to various chemicals whilst performing job tasks, potentially leading to either irritant contact dermatitis (ICD) or allergic contact dermatitis (ACD). ACD is a T cell-mediated type IV hypersensitivity reaction triggered by exogenous agents in sensitised individuals. A detailed clinical history and skin patch tests are essential for identifying specific allergens. Despite its prevalence, occupational contact dermatitis (ICD or ACD) is often under-reported, as many workers do not seek medical attention for minor skin conditions. This leads to an underestimation of its actual occurrence.
